I had the great opportunity to go to Portland, Oregon for the Garden Writer's Association National symposium in September. My friend Kellie and her husband Jordan (who grew up in Oregon) just moved back there from Stillwater, so it was also the perfect time to spend a few days with her after the conference.
During the conference, every morning consists of educational sessions and the afternoons are tours. The following are some pics from the tours.
This lady's garden was quite unique, but cute. This high-heeled shoe was hanging on a chair, but she had a whole shoe rack full of high-heels filled with succulents!
The shoe lady had this sign on the side of her shed. After some internet searching, it translates something like, "My stubborn weed garden".
The Classical Chinese Grden in downtown Portland was cool. It was only one block and was totally surrounded by city, so it seemed like you stepped into another world. 
Oregon is a beautiful state and is truly plant heaven. I barely saw ANY sick or dying plants like is common in Oklahoma! Although it was cloudy most of the time, we did not really get rained on, so the tours were great!

This seemed to be the philosophy of most gardeners in Portland: minimal lawn, stuffed gardens.

I thought this metal ball sculpture was pretty cool. Ryan would probably say it was absolutely pointless, but hey, it's garden art!
We were fortunate to be able to visit two world-class nurseries that are close to Portland. This picture is of a living double helix made of evergreen trees that lines the drive of Iseli nursery. They specialize in evergreen trees and shrubs.
There were acres and acres of potted trees and shrubs. It was really amazing. Along with that, they had a beautiful mature landscape surrounding the headquarters. Below are some pictures from that, including one of me and my friend Samantha from OKC.

One thing that kept amazing me in Oregon were the huge trees. This was an unbelievably huge giant sequoia that just really made me appreciate the awesomeness of God and his creation. I wonder what stories this guy could tell during the hundreds or thousands of years it has lived.
